We’ve all heard the compelling reasons why we should become “locavores”: fresher and better tasting foods; less environmental impact (reduced transportation energy/carbon emissions); preserving green spaces and farmlands; reducing risk of contamination; greater variety; supporting the local economy; building relationships and community.

The efforts of many people are needed to supply locally-grown or produced foods for the greater Houston area. For the past two years I have been photographing the vendors at local Farmer’s Markets. In addition, I have visited many farms and kitchens supplying local foods and I am starting to include restaurants serving these foods. I have received a friendly welcome from this community of dedicated, passionate folks. Through my photography I hope to acknowledge these amazing, hard-working people and help them get the recognition they deserve.
